Berdasarkan bahasa Inggris, menakutkan itu :

Dari hal - hal di atas dapat kita lihat bahwa "takut" merupakan suatu emosi dimana kita merasa tidak nyaman akan sesuatu. (unpleasant emotion)

Dari hal ini mari kita lihat pada penjelasan tentang "scary" -> "causing fear"

menakutkan adalah sesuatu yang menyebabkan rasa takut (Dalam hal ini takut merupakan suatu ketidak nyamanan akan sesuatu.)

Dari hal - hal di atas, dapat kita ketahui secara simple bahwa takut itu merupakan suatu emosi yang kita miliki, dimana kita merasa tidak nyaman akan sesuatu. Ketidak nyamanan ini bisa merupakan suatu insting bagi kita akan keberadaan sesuatu yang berbahaya atau kita anggap berbahaya untuk diri kita. Tapi apakah "takut" yang sesungguhnya? Darimana asal "takut" itu? Apa tujuan kita memiliki rasa "takut" itu? Bagaimana penerapannya dalam kehidupan sehari - hari?

Mari sama-sama kita renungkan, apa itu "takut".. dan apa yang kita anggap "menakutkan". Benarkah apa yang kita rasakan adalah "takut"? Apakah hal itu benar - benar "menakutkan"?

Lalu untuk kata "phobia", hal ini berbeda dengan "takut" namun sebenarnya sedikit menyinggung arti kata "takut" sendiri. Namun berbeda jauh pengertiannya.
